Making Old Lamps Shine Like New Again is a Labor of Love at Rekindled.™
We begin by sourcing only the finest vintage all-metal desktop and gooseneck lamps from the turn of the century (last century, that is) from legendary names like Aladdin, AJ Gibbons, Eagle, Faries Mfg. Co., Gem Electric Co., Rodale, S. Robert Schwartz & Brothers and others. Then we carefully prepare each lamp for restoration by removing the rust and lovingly sanding each one 'til it's primed for paint.
Each lamp base is brush painted by hand using period-correct metallic colors, then multiple layers of finishing wax are applied to bring about that perfect patina. Sometimes that may take 3 to 4 applications of various waxes, each one hand rubbed and polished until perfection is achieved.
That same hand painting and polishing technique is applied to the lamp shade. The inside is refinished with several coats of bright white gloss enamel and our labor-intensive finishing technique that looks better than genuine porcelain. The top of each lamp shade is hand brush painted using various hues of vintage metallic colors, with further applications of wax, buffing, sanding and polishing. Then a final spray of clear gloss brings out a glassy shine that enhances the depth of color and richness of the distressed finish.
After each lamp is restored externally, we then replace the socket with brand new units and fit new wires, plugs and knobs in period correct vintage fashion, using twisted cloth or braided cords and various plug styles of that era from our local friends at Snakehead Vintage.
The Process is the Passion.
No two Rekindled™ lamps are ever the same, and each one is a piece of art that will transform your desk or table from ordinary to extraordinary. Each lamp is numbered and hand-signed by the artist. Additionally, we also take on commission projects if you have a specific lamp, color or finish that you would like.
